New Year, New Me.
The clock is ticking down on another year. It's time too get your outfits together to watch the ball drop. It's the only outfit you wear from one year into another, so it may be an important one. Or it's the outfit you trust most to protect you from a rogue sparkler. However you view the clothes you wear to the New Year's Eve party, you want to look good and feel comfortable in them. Here are some tips on the best ways to do just that.
I feel that the New Year's Eve Outfit, along with Halloween, is a night that you can dress outside of your comfort zone and it still be acceptable (although, I think you should always try to push the boundaries on your personal style more often than not). You can wear that sequin tux jacket, or that statement tie so that you stand out from the crowd and get that New Year's kiss from your crush. I say have fun with your style, and don't be afraid to show your personality through your choices.
4.) The Jacket
If you're going out on the town to a more formal party, get a tux. Yes, you can get the traditional black on black tux, but where's the fun in that?! Let the jacket be the statement piece of the night. Get a colorful tux jacket. No, not like a bright yellow, or orange, you still want to be classy. Go for a darker blue (not navy), maroon, olive, or red. Then add some texture to the tux. i.e. a velvet jacket. People are going to want to rub on your jacket all night (so make sure you do a few push ups before you head out).
Now, if you're going to a party at someone's house and it's not really a formal event, pull out your favorite bomber jacket. You'll still look stylish, but won't look like you're over doing it. Plus, when the air gets crisp while watching the fireworks, you can lend it to your date and score some major brownie points for being prepared.
3.) The Shirt
Like I said before, I prefer having the jacket as the focal point of the outfit. So I suggest a black or white shirt. A crisp black shirt on black pants with an awesome jacket just screams class. You could also do some color blocking with a solid color shirt, solid jacket, and solid pants.
Sweaters are also a favorite of mine. Especially out at a bonfire. Go bold and you won't need a statement jacket.
2.) The Pants
Of course your choice of pants will greatly depend on your choice of a top. Besides tuxedo pants, you could do a full on maroon suit with a black shirt and call it a night! Or if you're into the printed slacks, do a solid color sweater and have your pants be the talk of the town.
1.) The Accessories
Ties, pocket squares, bow ties, lapel pins, tie clips. Do it all! You could also go tie-less. I do, however, suggest a pocket square or a lapel pin. Show that you're putting a little more effort into your look. This is where your personality will shine through the most. If you're afraid to step out of your fashion box, this is where you can experiment and test the waters for a new look for you in the new year.
Whatever way you choose to say "good-bye" to 2018, know that fashion is all about you and the way you rock it. Be confident in what you wear, people will notice that confidence more than your choice in jackets and will respect that. Also, remember to be safe this New Year's Eve. Cheers to 2019 and sticking to your New Year's Resolutions!
